The refurbishment
What actually changed.
A motel refurbishment is easy to do badly. You change the light bulbs, move the furniture two centimetres, and put up a new sign. This one was done properly, and it shows in the small things.
New carpet in every room
Every floor was lifted and replaced, not cleaned. New carpet changes how a modest room sounds and how it feels underfoot — it is the single biggest upgrade in the building and the hardest to fake.
New double glazing in every window
The old windows have been replaced with new double glazing throughout. Because we sit just off the motorway, this is the difference between a room you can sleep in and a room you can only tolerate. The rooms are lovely and quiet.
32″ LED televisions
Every room has a new 32″ LED television with SKY. LED panels are flat, light, and easy to mount — and they leave the wall space for something better than a bulky old set.
Recliner chairs
Recliner chairs in every unit, because after a long drive the last thing anybody wants is a straight-backed dining chair.
Updated décor
The rooms were redecorated rather than patched — fresh soft furnishings, updated colour schemes and a consistent finish across the whole motel, from the studios through to the two-bedroom apartments.

- Dining out is easy — McDonald’s and Liffiton Castle Restaurant are both within a short walk.
- River Traders Market puts produce and street food on the riverfront.
